Keep Calm and Listen - Listening Part 2

We are back!
This weekend for you may have seemed like an eternity or perhaps for some it probably felt as if time flew. Nevertheless, it's Monday and the clock is ticking on the metaphorical time bomb that is your official exam date. Time to get to work :)
Some of you still doubt your listening skills. With the vast knowledge of English that you possess this shouldn't be a problem.
Native English speakers only hear 80% of the conversation the rest is understood via context. So don't get bogged down in the task of trying to understand every word. If you don't understand a word keep calm and listen, the context will help you.

Tips for Part 2 Listening.
  • Practice listening and writing. Pick a podcast  and make notes. Maybe even listen to BBC 6 minute English and take notes and then read to compare what you've written to what the article contains.
  • Listen to a variety of accents. Scottish, Australian, Welsh, Irish, American, etc. As many as possible. Of course if you watch series in English then you'll be exposed to a wealth of different accents.
  • If you made a mistake, listen again to the recording to find out where you went wrong. This small 5 minute task will help you understand further in the future.
  • Always read the question paper before you start. This way you'll know what to expect.
  • Try to predict the answers. You have done this in B1,why not now? Is the answer a number, adjective, noun, a date? This helps you identify the answers more quickly.
  • Always listen intently twice. Even though you feel 100% certain, listen.
Time to put all the tips to work.
