Part 1 tests your ability to: use language for social purposes, for example, making introductions, answering questions about yourself. (Use this to your advantage, it's always fun to talk about yourself.)
This part of the exam lasts about 3 minutes
So, who speaks and when? Here's Jenny Cook with Ottavia and Hannah to give you an example.
You will asked questions generally related to these topics:
- Where you live
- Hobbies
- Family and friends
- Internet
- Sport.
- Media
- Work or studies
- Holidays
Here is an incredibly large list of possible questions.
It's worth looking at as the more familiar you are with the possiblities, the less nervous you'll be at the beginning of the exam.
Top Tips!
- Never give one word answers. Avoid 'yes' and 'no' answers
- Use the grammer you hear in the question. for example, 'Do you enjoy plaing golf?' you would need to answer 'Yes, I enjoy playing golf' and NOT 'Yes, I enjoy to play golf'
- Offer examples to help you explain a statement
- Give reasons why, using 'because' helps you lead into your reasons 'why'.
OK. You have the knowledge and you know the top tips. Time to put these into practice. The following video from Cambridge English is a Speaking Exam in Virtual Reality. Try it on your phone via VR cardboard glasses to get the full effect.
